Thiruvananthapuram: A red alert, indicating an extremely heavy rainfall forecast, has been issued for three districts in Kerala: Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, and Idukki. Additionally.

The Central Meteorological Department has declared a high alert for central and southern Kerala. An orange alert is in effect for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Thrissur districts, while a yellow alert has been issued for all districts except Kannur and Kasargod.

The Meteorological Department has reported a strong low-pressure area over the Gulf of Mannar, which is expected to move toward the south Tamil Nadu coast in the next 24 hours and diminish in intensity. Consequently, there is a potential for rainfall in Kerala over the next five days.

The IMD forecasts the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places today and heavy rainfall on December 12 and 13.
