Telangana to Adopt Vahan Sarathi for RTO Services from March 9

Telangana to implement Centre's Vahan Sarathi software for vehicle registrations and driving licences, streamlining RTO services statewide

Hyderabad: The transport department will switch over to the Centre Vahan Sarathi software from March 9, to help streamline issuing driving licences and vehicle registrations. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will launch the system at the North Zone RTA in Secunderabad.

Introduced by the Centre in 2021, Vahan Sarathi had not been adopted by the then BRS government, preferring to continue with a system managed by CMS Computers Limited. Several states, including Andhra Pradesh, switched over to the centralised portal.

Vahan Sarathi automates RTO operations, including issuing permits, taxation, enforcement registration certificates, conductor licences, and driving school licences. Once fully operational across all 33 RTA offices in Telangana, the portal will allow vehicle registration at showrooms, minimise paperwork, and eliminate the need for No Objection Certificates (NOCs) in most cases.

“Data will be generated by manufacturers and passed through showrooms to the RTA,” an official explained. “This saves consumers time while maintaining the same process flow.” Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar has expedited the transition, which will begin in the North Zone RTA and be phased in across other districts.
