Telangana to be Promoted as Destination Wedding Hub: Tourism Minister
Hyderabad: Tourism minister Jupally Krishna Rao said that Telangana, which abounded with natural beauty, would be made a destination wedding centre.
Speaking at an event organised by the Telangana Chamber of Events Industry (TCEI) here on Sunday, Krishna Rao said that while Telangana was is he destination for marriages, these ceremonies are conducted only in function halls, convention centres and resorts in and around Hyderabad.
There are many beautiful places beyond Hyderabad as well that have abundant resources, and are of historical importance, he said. One of them to be named, the environs of the Nagarjunasagar reservoir in the midst of green hills, was an ideal place for a destination wedding. Similarly the Somasila backwaters in Kollapur on the banks of the Krishna river was also infrastructurally beneficial, Krishna Rao said. The only need was to make people aware of these places.
Emphasising the state government’s aim to make Telangana a global tourism hub under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, he said that the government was laying its focus on various sectors including medical, adventure, spiritual and eco tourism. Steps were being taken to attract investors to develop tourist areas through public-private partnerships (PPP) to promote destination weddings, he said.
Krishna Rao said that with the development of the tourism department, more income and employment opportunities for the youth would be generated.
Explaining the importance of such events as this, the minister said that such programmes would further help in strengthening Telangana's position as a destination wedding hub and a leading destination for tourism.
Tourism Development Corporation MD Ramesh Naidu, director of tourism, TCEI, president Alla Balaram Babu, High Tex head Srikanth, SIWPC convener Hirish Reddy, Kumar Raja, Dr Saurabh Surekha, Sudhakar Yarabadi and others were a part of this event.
