Tirupati: Tirupati MP Dr M. Gurumurthy has raised concerns over the plight of Indian migrant workers in Kuwait, particularly those from Rayalaseema, and has sought urgent intervention for their safety.
He highlighted issues such as passport confiscation by employers, delayed wages, poor living conditions, job discrepancies, and incidents of violence. Gurumurthy has written to external affairs minister Dr S. Jaishankar and also met Kuwait’s ambassador to India, Mishal Mustafa Al-Shamali, who assured action.
Recognising the high number of expatriates from Tirupati, Gurumurthy also proposed direct flights between Kuwait and Tirupati under the Open Sky Policy. He submitted a request to the Union civil aviation minister K. Rammohan Naidu for flights with a 400-seat capacity.
Kuwaiti authorities responded positively, stating that two airlines already operate from Kuwait and expressing willingness to consider the proposal.
