YSRCP Slams Naidu Over Power Tariff Hikes

YSR Congress spokesperson Yanamala Nagarjuna Yadav criticised Naidu for assuring that there would be no tariff hikes but then imposing a Rs 15,780 crore burden through “True-Up” charges within six months—Rs 6,072 crore on November 25, 2024, and Rs 9,412 crore on November 29, 2024

Vijayawada: YSR Congress spokesperson Yanamala Nagarjuna Yadav accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of misleading the public with false promises on power tariffs before the elections.

He criticised Naidu for assuring that there would be no tariff hikes but then imposing a Rs 15,780 crore burden through “True-Up” charges within six months—Rs 6,072 crore on November 25, 2024, and Rs 9,412 crore on November 29, 2024.

The spokesperson also slammed the APERC report, which exposed plans to impose peak-hour surcharges on 30 lakh small traders with low-tension (LT) connections—a charge previously levied only on high-tension (HT) industries. He further condemned the government's decision to install smart meters in 1.6 crore households despite earlier opposition, raising concerns over future surcharges based on peak-hour usage.

Nagarjuna accused Chandrababu of betraying his pre-election promises of tariff reductions, instead burdening consumers with heavy financial costs and pushing small traders into distress.
