Passage of Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, Landmark Achievement for Women's Empowerment
At the outset, I would like to express my strong support for Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam or the Women's Reservation Bill. I believe it is a significant step towards achieving gender equality in the political arena.
The bill, which has been a topic of debate and discussion in Indian politics for many years, aims to reserve one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and State legislative assemblies for women. Increased representation of women in politics is a crucial factor in addressing gender disparities and ensuring a more inclusive society.
I am deeply honoured to represent women, not only from our industry but also from all walks of life. I am committed to contributing in every way I can.
At this point in my career, I have attained a position of influence, and I believe it is the perfect moment to use it to raise awareness about crucial issues. It is essential to recognise that the economy's growth is intrinsically linked to the participation of women.
When I started my journey in the South film industry, there were hardly any women on set. However, over the past decade, I have witnessed a significant transformation. I am delighted to report that now I often encounter a predominantly female crew, as exemplified by a recent film project I was a part of.
The Women's Reservation in parliament and state legislatures would provide women with a stronger voice in decision-making processes at the highest levels of government. It would also serve as a powerful symbol of progress and equality in a country where gender biases have persisted for centuries.
It is not just a matter of representation, but also a means to address critical issues that affect women's lives, such as healthcare, education, and safety. Women in politics can bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to the table, ultimately leading to better policies and outcomes for all citizens.
I would also like to appreciate the efforts of women leaders who have paved the way for future generations in Indian politics. Inspirational figures like Indira Gandhi, Jayalalithaa, and Mamata Banerjee are examples of women who have broken barriers and risen to prominent political positions.
When I say that I support the Women's Reservation Bill, it is not just about words; I actively engage in initiatives that promote women's empowerment.
A growing awareness and consensus among public figures in India regarding gender equality is not just a moral imperative but also a necessary step for progress and development.
The Women's Reservation Bill highlights the importance of gender equality in politics and society, as a whole. I also believe that this historic legislation will create a more inclusive and representative political landscape in India.
