PM Modi likely to attend Chandrababu Naidu's swearing-in ceremony: Sources

Andhra Pradesh is set to witness the return of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu as Chief Minister, as sources indicate that he will take the oath of office on June 9. The news comes amidst reports that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will grace the occasion with his presence.

With the TDP-led alliance commanding a substantial lead in 158 out of 175 assembly constituencies, Naidu is poised to helm the state once again. At 74, Naidu is set to assume the role of Chief Minister for the fourth time, having previously served in this capacity for undivided Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004.

Following the bifurcation of the state in 2014, Naidu also became the inaugural Chief Minister of the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh. After a setback in the 2019 elections, where the YSR Congress Party secured a decisive victory, Naidu's resurgence comes on the back of an anti-establishment sentiment, with his alliance with the Jana Sena Party (JSP) of actor-politician Pawan Kalyan and the BJP seemingly pivotal in his triumph.

The TDP's dominance is evident with a commanding lead in 131 segments, securing a significant majority independently. Naidu himself is leading in the Kuppam constituency, which he has represented since 1989, while his son and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh is also ahead in the Mangalagiri constituency, marking a notable turnaround from previous electoral defeats.

The TDP-led coalition is leading in 16 out of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies, with the alliance ahead on 21 seats. This contrasts sharply with the party's performance in the 2019 elections, where they secured only 23 assembly and three Lok Sabha seats.
