Telangana GHMC polls: Aspirants ready with flexis, again
Hyderabad: While the new reservation list is being seen as a boon for the publicity agencies, aspirants who had quite literally painted the city pink, yellow, saffron and various other hues associated with political parties recently, are now preparing to order a fresh set of publicity material.
These aspirants had put up flexis or posters, hoping to catch the eye of the party leadership, in the divisions they had hoped to represent. However, the reservation list has forced change of plans in many of the cases.
On January 9, GHMC commissioner and special officer had instructed his officials to remove all the unauthorised flexies and banners and ensure that all candidates obtain permissions, as per the guidelines of the State Election Commission.
These days, the posters and flexis are being removed and dumped in garbage bins, without even an attempt being made at disposing them of scientifically.
The fact that these aspirants had been vowing to keep civic issued uppermost in their minds is another matter altogether.
“Their stated desire to turn the city into a ‘clean and green city’ can be gauged by how they managed to turn the city into an eyesore with their publicity material on almost every wall, every vantage point,” said Mr Venkat Reddy of Abids.
A majority of the wards falling under Secunderabad division (circle 8 of GHMC ) is now reserved for women , while Secunderabad area is largely dominated by two ministers: T. Padma Rao Goud and T. Srinivas Yadav.
Male aspirants for the divisions here would now have to start their efforts at getting a ticket for some other division from scratch.
Other divisions that would see a change in face include Ahmednagar, earlier represented by former mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain, now reserved for women. Similarly, Azampura division earlier represented by MBT’s Amjadullah Khan too is now reserved for women.
Golnaka and Saidabad divisions too are now reserved for women under general category.
“The election authority has requested all political parties to cooperate with the GHMC for smooth conduct of the elections in a free and fare manner without causing any inconvenience to citizens, said GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy.
Meanwhile, an all-party meeting will be conducted on January 11 at the GHMC Head Office with regard to the GHMC elections.
