Secunderabad-Shalimar Express Derails
Hyderabad: Three coaches of the Shalimar Superfast Express that left Secunderabad on Friday, derailed near Howrah in West Bengal early on Saturday morning. No one was injured, according the railways. A helpline, 032229-3764, was made functional at Kharagpur.
The accident occurred at about 5.30 am at Nalpur, 40 km from Kolkata, South Eastern Railway (SER) officials said. SER spokesperson Omprakash Charan said that two passenger coaches, an AC III economy and an AC II compartment, and a parcel van went off the tracks.
Relief teams, including accident and medical trains from Santragachi and Kharagpur, reached the spot. Buses were arranged to take passengers to their destinations, officials said.
Some train services were delayed due to the accident. Restoration work is ongoing, and an investigation has been set up to find out what caused the derailment.
