Vijayawada: A woman, 27, on Sunday drowned and another went missing in the sea at Hamsaladeevi beach under Koduru police station limits in Avanigadda, Krishna district. The deceased was identified as Sk Fajala (27) while the missing person was identified as Musharaf, 20, both from Gudivada.
A group of six people from Gudivada visited Hamsaladeevi beach on Sunday morning. They entered the sea for a swim and were swept away by strong currents.
Upon hearing their screams, marine police and passersby swiftly rescued five, bringing them to ashore while the sixth person went missing in the sea. The police have launched a search operation to locate the missing person.
The rescued individuals were immediately taken to Avanigadda area hospital where doctors declared Sk Fajala dead on arrival. The other four, who had ingested seawater, were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
