1,400 Buses to Provide Free Transportation for Women: Min

Anantapur: Transport minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy has announced that 1,400 buses will soon be available to provide free transportation for women across the state. Currently, 400 of these buses are already prepared for service.

The minister inaugurated 17 new buses at the APSRTC depot in Kadapa on Sunday, serving the Kadapa region. Speaking to the media, Reddy emphasized, "Just as pensions and ration are vital for the poor, APSRTC travel is equally essential. We are committed to offering free travel for women, and we're deploying 1,400 buses to make this possible, with 400 buses ready for immediate use."

Reddy criticised the previous YSRC government for its handling of APSRTC, asserting that the organization was severely neglected over the past five years. "In just two months, the TDP government has begun revitalizing APSRTC," he said. "This is a pivotal moment to restore and strengthen our public transportation system."

The minister also announced plans to introduce electric buses into the APSRTC fleet and to expand operations to include 3,000 to 5,000 additional buses serving villages and towns within the next five years.

“We are dedicated to meeting the expectations of our citizens and delivering the welfare programs they need,” Reddy stated. “We will launch the Anna Canteen on August 15 and soon offer free APSRTC bus travel for women, who played a crucial role in securing our coalition government’s mandate.” Kadapa MLA Sreedevi was also present at the event.
