Kurnool: Two minors Lakshmi (13) and Govardhini (8) travelling from Hyderabad in a private bus carrying over 40 passengers to Adoni died when the vehicle overturned near Kodumur in Kurnool district on Thursday.
According to police, the bus driver had reached Kodumur and tried to overtake another vehicle but lost control. The bus overturned, killing Lakshmi and Govardhini on the spot and injuring another 20 passengers.
Kodumur police rushed to the spot and extricated the passengers trapped inside the overturned bus. They shifted the injured in ambulances to Kurnool Government Hospital for treatment. Police said the condition of one of the passengers remains critical.
Eyewitnesses said the bus driver fled from the spot after the accident.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
