20 Students Caught Cheating in Final Exams Two Invigilators Penalised

The minister stressed the need to conduct examinations in a transparent manner to ensure justice for meritorious students and directed the university authorities not to compromise on fairness

Vijayawada: As many as 20 students were caught resorting to malpractice during final examinations for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in medicine, dental and Ayush streams conducted from April 2 to April 27. Two invigilators were also found using mobile phones inside examination halls in violation of rules.

University officials said that of the 20 students caught, 16 were carrying chits, two used smart phones and two used mobile phones during the examinations. The students included 14 male candidates and six female candidates.

The registrar said a special committee was examining the malpractice cases and, depending on the seriousness of the offence, the erring students could be debarred from examinations for up to two years.

Officials said one invigilator each from two private medical colleges was found using mobile phones during examination duty. Their phones were seized and both would be barred from examination duty for three years.

Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav reviewed the issue at a meeting with Dr NTR University of Health Sciences vice-chancellor Dr P. Chandrasekhar, registrar Sai Sudheer and controller of examinations Srikanth here on Tuesday.
