2,000 Acres of Crop Still in Water in Konaseema

KAKINADA: More than 2,000 acres of crops are still inundated in Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district and the farmers are in distress as they are not in a position to invest in the crop again. According to the preliminary report, submitted by the agriculture department officials to the district collector R. Mahesh Kumar, 286 acres of paddy nurseries and 1,758 acres of main field were inundated and 664 acres of crop have been damaged. The officials said that a booster dose has been applied for the crop in 803 acres to make it normal.

The horticulture farmers in the district are also in in disarray as their crops, banana, coconut, maize and vegetables, were also fully damaged. They said they would not come out of debt anytime soon due to the current losses. They have requested the government to engage agriculture workers in their agricultural fields under the MGNREGS scheme to reduce the cost of cultivation.
Meanwhile, the West Godavari district collector Chadalavada Nagarani instructed the district officials to remove weed in drains canals by using theRs 5.92 crore funds sanctioned by the government for taking up weed clearing work in 35 places. She said the floods have inundated the crops and residential colonies as the weed blocked the canals and the drains in many areas. The collector has ordered the officials to immediately take up clearing work and suggested to involve the local public representatives for quick results. She said that the district administration sent proposals of Rs 3.02 crore funds for weed removals works in another 64 areas.
With the receding waters at Bhadrachalam, the people in villages of Velerupadu mandal are returning to their homes from rehabilitation centres and cleansing their houses and the streets. They are finding several snakes that were washed away to the villages and they are leaving them at nearby bushes. The AP TRANSCO officials are working to restore power in the villages where the water is receding.
