2,580 to embark on Haj pilgrimage from AP
Vijayawada: As many as 2,580 pilgrims are to embark on the Haj pilgrimage from the state of Andhra Pradesh out of the allotted quota of 2,902 for 2024.
The first batch of 322 pilgrims boarded the flight at Vijayawada International Airport at 8.45 am on Monday to fly to Mecca. On Tuesday, the second batch of 322 pilgrims to fly to Mecca at 4.55 pm and the third batch of 48 to board the flight at 2.50 pm on Wednesday.
AP minorities welfare secretary and Haj operations chairman Harshavardhan flagged off the pilgrimage of the first batch from the Haj camp set up at Idgah Jama Masjid at Gannavaram on Monday in the presence of AP Wakf Board chief executive officer Abdul Qadir and other officials. They congratulated the pilgrims on the occasion.
The authorities arranged embarkation points with a specified number of pilgrims to reach Mecca and accordingly, from Vijayawada-728, Hyderabad-1,118, Bengaluru-725 and Chennai-nine with a total of 2,580.
