40th Maha Kumbha Abhishekam draws thousands to Visakhapatnam shoreline

Visakhapatnam: The sacred shores of R.K. Beach drew thousands of devotees to the shoreline as the 40th annual Maha Kumbhabhishekam ceremony was held on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri here on Wednesday.

The grand ritual, organised to commemorate Maha Shivaratri, saw thousands of devotees participate in the ceremonial held with 1.8 crore (18 million) Shivalinga’s arranged along the seashore.

Beginning at 9:30 am, former minister T. Subbarami Reddy himself led the abhishekam rituals, with devotees offering panchamrutham, spices and fruit juices to the Shivalingas. As part of the celebrations, participants received Rudrakshas and turmeric threads as blessed offerings.

“The Maha Kumbhabhishekam is organised every year on Maha Shivaratri day for the welfare of the world," Subbarami said during the event. He emphasised his commitment to blending spiritual practices with social service initiatives in Visakhapatnam, calling this approach “pious work.”

By afternoon, attendees witnessed Swami's the traditional marriage ceremony, followed by a sacred homam (fire ritual). City officials and dignitaries joined the massive gathering of devotees who flocked to the beach for the auspicious occasion. Comprehensive arrangements were in place to ensure the comfort and convenience of all participants.

The celebrations will continue till Thursday morning, with devotees scheduled to gather again at R.K. Beach for a holy dip to conclude the festivities.
