70 to contest for the three MLC seats in AP on Feb 27

Vijayawada:Seventy contestants are in fray from the three MLC constituencies in Andhra Pradesh, polling for which will be held on February 27.

There are 35 candidates contesting from the East-West Godavari Graduates’ constituency, 25 from the Krishna-Guntur Graduates’ constituency and 10 from the Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam Teachers’ constituency.

The total number of electors in the three constituencies are 6,84,593. They will cast their votes at 1,062 polling stations spread over the districts of Alluri Sitarama Raju, Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli.

Election authorities have taken up a series of measures to conduct the MLC polls in a free and fair manner. There will by live webcasting / videography of the entire poll process at all the 1,062 polling stations. Facilities like safe drinking water, toilet facilities, ramps, uninterrupted power supply and pandals have been set up for the benefit of voters to exercise their franchise.

As per the Election Commission guidelines, district election officers are distributing voter information slips to all the electors with information about their respective polling stations.

Voters, who are central and state government employees, will be granted a casual leave, so that they can cast their vote. Electors who are private employees will be given permission to attend duty late, adjust their shift or allowed absence from duty for short hours, so that they can vote.

A control room has been set up at the office of the chief electoral officer. It will work in two shifts to monitor the election on February 27 and on March 3, when the votes polled will be counted.

There will be 6,287 personnel who will supervise the polling. Another 8,515 staff belonging to civil and armed forces will ensure that the polls are peaceful, free and fair.

Counting of votes will be taken up on March 3 at Sir CRR Engineering College in Vallurupalli of Eluru for East-West Godavari Graduates’ Constituency, at Andhra Christian College in Guntur for Krishna-Guntur Graduates’ Constituency and at Andhra University in Visakhapatnam for Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam Teachers’ constituency.
