8 Cr Pilgrims to Participate in 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu

KAKINADA: Officials of the East Godavari district are expecting more than eight crore pilgrims for the Godavari Pushkaralu that will be held in 2027. Accordingly, the state government has instructed officials to make the requisite preparations for the Pushkaralu from now on.

East Godavari district collector P. Prasanthi conducted a high-level Pushkaralu – 2027 meeting at Rajamahendravaram on Tuesday to prepare the plan for conducting the event.

Tourism minister Kandula Durgesh, Bharatiya Janata Party state president and MP D. Purandeswari, superintendent of police D. Narasimha Kishore, municipal commissioner Kethan Garg, Rajamahendravaram Rural MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary, Rajanagaram MLA Bathula Ramakrishna, Kovvuru MLA Muppidi Venkateswara Rao and others were present at the meeting.

Minister Durgesh said an integrated and compressive action plan is being prepared by taking the district as a unit. Officials have been instructed to prepare the action plan for eight crore pilgrims, related to traffic control, arrangements and developing the ghats, among others.

Durgesh pointed out that Godavari at Rajamahendravaram is like Varanasi (Kasi) in UP. Devotees can take a dip in the “Akhanda Godavari” during the Pushkaralu in 2027.

In the build up to the Pushkaralu, Rajamahendravaram city will develop with several permanent facilities, which will be of use to the citizens.

Rajamahendravaram MP Purandeswari said the meeting discussed issues of traffic, security, drinking water, development of internal roads and setting up additional bathing ghats at various places on the River Godavari. She said ghats will be developed in Rajamahendravaram, Kovvuru, Nidadavole and Rajanagaram constituencies.

“The Godavari Pushkaralu will be on the lines of Kumbh Mela and Rama Pratishtha events,” Purandeswari underlined. She promised to make efforts and bring more funds for the Pushkaralu from the central government.

District collector Prashanthi said a buffer zone has been proposed for Pushkaralu. A “Stay Home” will be set up, where pilgrims can stay for two to three days.

SP Narasimha Kishore said different places are being identified for parking and entry of pilgrims.

Municipal commissioner Kethan Garg made a power-point-presentation on development works that will be taken up for the Pushkaralu.
