Anantapur: Kadapa ACB sleuths caught red-handed Annamayya district Handlooms and Textiles officer D. Krishna while the latter had been receiving a bribe from the representative of a weavers’ association at Rajampet in Annamayya district on Monday.
Sources said N. Tarachandra of Siddareddypalle in Tamballapalle mandal had approached the official D. Krishna seeking sanction of a Weavers Association with 100 weavers in the name of Vijay Handloom Weavers Producer Company.
However, Krishna demanded Rs.1.30 lakh to process the request, which includes bribes that need to be paid to officials at the head office in Vijayawada. When Tarachandra expressed inability in giving such a huge amount, the official asked him to pay Rs.70,000 first and the remaining amount after the completion of work.
Tarachandra then approached Kadapa ACB officials, who laid a trap on Monday and caught the handlooms officer while taking the bribe.
The ACB later produced Krishna before the Kurnool ACB Court.
