Adivasis Demand Land Records Correction

Visakhapatnam: A group of tribal people has raised concerns over restoring the Land Capability Classification titles omitted from Record of Rights (ROR) records. The protest, which took place on Monday, called for the implementation of orders by the AP Scheduled Tribes Commission and urged the district collector to take necessary action to restore the land rights to tribal families that have been cultivating the respective lands for decades.

A few tribal families have been cultivating 35 acres of cashew plantations and paddy fields for 40 years in the non-scheduled tribal Ravikamatham mandal of Anakapalli district. They were distressed to find that the details of their lands were missing from the revenue records after a recent resurvey conducted by Jagananna land resurvey officials.
This omission has led to difficulties accessing bank loans and registering e-crops, forcing them to borrow from private moneylenders at high interest rates for agricultural investments. Another 28 tribal people faced similar challenges in the Attikunta revenue area, where their names were removed from ROR records, preventing them from accessing opportunities in the revenue records and facing unauthorized land transfers.
Despite the setbacks due to the lack of response and action from authorities, the tribal people remain determined to seek justice. They have complained to the district collector demanding the formation of special investigation teams and preparing themselves to present their grievances at the village revenue conferences, which are to be organized by the government soon. The AP Tribal Association 5th Schedule Sadhana Committee district honorary president K. Govinda Rao, tribal elder Appili Godu, and tribal women Nandila Chinnammalu and Neelapu Narasamma have been tirelessly working for rectification of these land records.
