Polavaram MLA Chirri Balaraju
Visakhapatnam: Adivasi unions, led by the Joint Action Committee (JAC), warned Polavaram MLA Chirri Balaraju that they would launch an agitation against him if he continued to support non-tribals attempting to occupy valuable lands in the agency area.
Addressing a press conference in Paderu, JAC convener Rama Rao Dora accused the MLA of betraying his community by advising non-tribals to file cases against Adivasis who had previously taken legal action over land grabbing.
He pointed out that the 1/70 Land Transfer Act prohibits land registration in favor of non-tribals and that a special deputy collector is responsible for handling land grabbing cases. Therefore, he said, there was no need for the MLA to intervene.
Dora stated that Adivasis would appeal to Jana Sena chief and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to expel Balaraju from the party for betraying its trust. He also urged Tribal Welfare Minister Gummidi Sandhya Rani to respond to Balaraju’s actions.
