After decades, 956 tribal households get electricity

Vijayawada:Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar inaugurated power supply to 956 tribal households in several Adivasi hamlets within the Yerragondapalem constituency of Prakasam district. This is the first time that they have seen lights going up in their villages since the decades of Independence.

The minister had ordered electricity officials to conduct a survey and find out villages without electricity supply. In the survey, officials discovered that 1,750 Adivasi households are without power connections.

Ravi Kumar brought the matter to the attention of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who approved the proposal for providing solar electrification in these areas. Following this, the energy department spent approximately ₹2.20 crore and provided solar power to 956 tribal households.

In addition, 611 families in the Tiger Reserve Zone have been identified. The minister assured that they too will soon be provided uninterrupted power supply using solar batteries.

Speaking on the occasion, Ravi Kumar said the state government is making every effort to improve the living standards of Adivasi living in extreme poverty. He underlined that serving the poor is the core belief of the Naidu government.

The minister assured that Adivasi will be provided workdays under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
