Alcoholism, Wage Abuse Affecting Farmers, Workers: IYR Krishna Rao

Kurnool: Former chief secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao said that farmers and labourer was being affected by two major problems. He said that alcoholism was causing domestic violence and financial troubles and the misuse of wages which should be spent on family welfare rather than addictions.

He was speaking at Rythu Cooli Sadassu organized by Sri Krishnadevaraya University on the campus premises in Anantapur On Tuesday. University Rector G. Venkata Naidu pointed out that the agricultural sector was struggling due to mechanisation, increasing seed prices and a lack of support prices for crops.

Advocate Raghavendra opined that though Anantapur had become a horticulture hub and groundwater levels have improved with the Handri Neeva project, the agricultural sector continues to face difficulties due to poor coordination between farmers and workers. The seminar was attended by farmers, labourers, teachers, research students and university students.
