Alliance government committed to differently-abled’s welfare: Minister

Kurnool: Social welfare minister Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy reiterated that the alliance government was committed to safeguard the rights and welfare of physically challenged and criticized the previous YSRCP government for neglecting their welfare over the past five years.


The minister, who was speaking at a programme in Ongole on Tuesday, also highlighted that his government had increased the pension for specially-abled persons from ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 after assuming office. Besides, he announced several initiatives such as provision for Braille book at the start of the academic year, enhanced facilities in schools and hostels for differently-abled students, and the establishment of a sports centre for them in Visakhapatnam. He assured the distribution of tri-cycle and other equipment to eligible persons, emphasizing that it is a proactive and inclusive government.
District collector A. Thameem Ansaria said that a special recruitment drive for differently- abled was underway in the district. She also emphasized on providing specialized training as well as creating job opportunities for such students.

Ongole city mayor Gangada Sujatha said that disability was a challenge of the body and not the mind or talent, hence they should be encouraged to achieve their goals.
Later, the collector gave away laptops, touch phones, sewing machines, and tri-cycles to differently abled. District minority welfare officer Narayana, MEPMA project director Ravi Kumar and other officials were also present.
