Amaravati Farmers Hopeful for Renewed Construction with Naidu’s Return
Vijayawada: After four years of continuous protests, farmers in Amaravati are expressing cautious optimism and considering ending their agitation. This shift comes in light of the Telugu Desam (TD) regaining power under the leadership of N. Chandrababu Naidu, who has pledged to continue developing Amaravati as Andhra Pradesh’s capital city.
In 2015, then-Chief Minister Naidu announced Amaravati as the state’s capital and initiated land pooling, acquiring 35,000 acres for the purpose of building a world-class capital city.
However, construction was not completed during his previous term. Naidu’s recent electoral victory included a promise to resume construction efforts in Amaravati. The Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi, the group leading the farmer protests, is now considering holding a meeting to formally call off the strike in response to Naidu’s return as Chief Minister in a coalition government with the BJP and Jana Sena.
