Amaravati Works to be Completed in Three Years: Narayana

Vijayawada: The state government is expecting to complete all developmental works for capital Amaravati in three years, Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana has stated.

“We were able to close the old tenders that were a hurdle to the progress of works and called new tenders,” the minister told the media here on Monday.

He said a meeting of the Capital Region Development Authority was held under the chairmanship of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat here and took several key decisions.

He said that in 2014-19, tenders were called for taking up development works worth `41,000 crore in Amaravati. Of these, works of `35,000 crore were started, including the erection of buildings for the high court, state assembly, the main roads, other roads and official accommodation for HC judges, ministers and officials.

Narayana said a committee with chief engineers was formed in July 24 to find ways and means to resolve several issues pertaining to the old tenders and to facilitate calling of new tenders. The committed submitted a 23-point report to the government on Oct 29.

“Following this, we decided to call fresh tenders for several works except for works related to the high court and assembly by Dec. 31. The tenders for the high court and assembly structures would be called by January.”

The minister said the World Bank has agreed to give `15,000 crore and its representatives asked for completion of the flood control works expeditiously. “Accordingly, we would take up construction of reservoirs at several places covering 217 square km falling in the core area of Amaravati and outside the core area.”

Reservoirs would be constructed in the capital city limits at Kondaveeti, Palavagu and the gravity canal reservoir area. Outside capital city, storage reservoirs would be set up at Neerukonda, Krishnayapalem and Undavalli based on designs from the Netherlands.

Narayana promised to take up construction of both inner and outer ring roads as was decided earlier even though the government would be taking up bypass roads around Amaravati city.
