Anantapur MP Seeks ST Status for Boya Community
Anantapur: Anantapur MP Ambika Lakshmi Narayana has submitted a representation to the Registrar General of India (RGI), urging the acceleration of the process to include the Boya community from Andhra Pradesh in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.
The Boya community, which has long been classified as Backward Classes (BC) in Andhra Pradesh, is recognised as Scheduled Tribes in Karnataka and other regions. Highlighting this disparity, Lakshmi Narayana emphasised the decades-old pending demand for their inclusion as STs in Andhra Pradesh.
The MP met deputy director general Biswajith and additional registrar general Sunil Kumar to brief them on the issue. He informed them that the Andhra Pradesh government is committed to ensuring justice for the Boya community and noted that a resolution advocating for their tribal status was passed in 2017 during the Telugu Desam government.
Telangana MP Etela Rajendar accompanied Lakshmi Narayana during the meeting to lend support to the cause.
