Women's academy to come up in Anantapur, men's academy in Vizianagaram and a senior men's academy at Moolapadu Stadium

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Cricket Association would set up three cricket academies in the state. A women's academy would be set up in Anantapur, a men's academy in Vizianagaram and a senior men's academy at the Moolapadu Stadium here.

Stating this, association president and local MP Kesineni Sivanath alias Chinni said on Thursday that these would be organised on the lines of the Centre of Excellence Centre started by the BCCI in Bengaluru.

The ACA apex council meeting was held on Thursday at the Mangalagiri International Cricket Stadium. The meeting discussed the development of Mangalagiri Cricket Stadium and about 16 issues related to cricket in the state. ACA would take advice and suggestions from architecture experts to correct the defects in the Mangalagiri stadium’s construction, Sivanath stated after the meeting.
The MP said discussions were held on the steps to develop cricket in rural areas. “We aim to establish grounds in rural areas where there are no sports facilities. Talented athletes will be identified and trained in these academies. Most of the cricket players trained in these academies will be selected from AP for the IPL and the Indian cricket team.
He said efforts are being made to train international cricket players so that 20 persons from AP can be selected for the upcoming IPL matches.

Kesineni Sivanath said IPL matches would be held in the state during the upcoming IPL season. The Vizag stadium is being readied accordingly. “We aim to improve the Mangalagiri Cricket Stadium so that international matches can be held there.” Actions will be taken to hold cricket tournaments in Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Mangalagiri, Anantapur and Kadapa stadiums.”

ACA vice president Venkata Rama Prashanth, secretary Sana Satish, treasurer Dandamudi Srinivas, councilor Dantugaur Vishnu Tej and others were present.
