Naidu Offers ₹30K For Third Child, ₹40K For Fourth

CM says declining birth rates pose long-term economic challenges

VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday announced a proposal to provide financial incentives of ₹30,000 for families having a third child and ₹40,000 for a fourth child as part of a new population growth initiative in Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing the Swachhandhra-Swarnandhra programme at Narasannapeta in Srikakulam district, the Chief Minister said the state government would soon launch a programme titled ‘Children Are Wealth’ to encourage population growth and address declining birth rates.
Naidu said Andhra Pradesh was preparing a long-term population management policy, noting that several countries were facing concerns over falling population growth and ageing populations.
The Chief Minister observed that many families were opting for only one child, creating economic and demographic challenges in several countries. Hence, he said the proposed initiative would provide ₹30,000 for the third child and ₹40,000 for the fourth child.
“Earlier, governments focused extensively on family planning and population control. But circumstances have changed now. Today, children are wealth,” the Chief Minister said.
He said the government planned to improve birth rates through a structured population management policy while strengthening maternal and child welfare systems.
The Chief Minister also said Anganwadi centres across the state were being strengthened through the women and child welfare department to improve nutrition for mothers and children. He added that the government was already providing financial assistance of ₹15,000 to mothers under the ‘Thalli Ki Vandanam’ scheme.
Naidu said the government’s objective was not merely to increase population numbers, but to develop a healthy and productive future generation capable of contributing to economic growth and social development.
