Andhra Pradesh: 30 Students Escape Unhurt as Private College Bus Gutted in Fire
Vijayawada: A private college bus belonging to India Rural Evangelical Fellowship (IREF) Nursing College in Repalle was destroyed in a fire caused by a suspected short circuit at Gudavalli village in Cherukupalli mandal of Bapatla district on Saturday.
Approximately 30 nursing students were travelling in the bus to attend their semester examinations at an examination hall in Guntur when the incident occurred at 7 am, cherukupalli sub-inspector T Anil Kumar informed Deccan Chronicle.
“All 30 students disembarked immediately after noticing smoke emanating from the vehicle, and within moments, the fire engulfed the bus completely,” the sub-inspector said, adding that no injuries were reported.
Local residents alerted authorities, and personnel from the police and fire department promptly arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames. According to the sub-inspector, an initial investigation suggests that electric wires within the bus may have come into contact with the diesel tank, triggering the fire.
“The exact cause of the fire is under investigation. A case will be registered once the college management files a formal complaint,” the sub-inspector stated.
