Andhra Pradesh: All ghat roads closed in ASR district
Visakhapatnam: The Alluri Seetharamaraju district administration has announced the closure of all ghat roads in the agency area due to continuous heavy rains that started on Saturday afternoon.
The ongoing rainfall is attributed to a depression in the west-central Bay of Bengal, which is expected to strengthen into a deep depression within the next 12 hours. Paderu has recorded the highest rainfall so far, with 7.2 cm. The relentless rains have forced many residents indoors as numerous streams have been overflowing since Saturday evening.
On Sunday morning, the century-old bridge between P Makavaram and Nalgonda in Koyyuru mandal was washed away. Additionally, a culvert between Padi and Ratnampeta was also destroyed, isolating several villages in the same mandal. In GK Veedhi mandal, the Chamagadda bridge collapsed, affecting over 20 villages. The district administration has set up a control room and announced the closure of all educational institutions on Monday.
