Andhra Pradesh: Bhavani Island reopens, but entertainment zones remain closed
Vijayawada: Visitors to Bhavani Island have expressed disappointment over the absence of gaming zones and entertainment activities, following severe damage caused by the Krishna River floods in September.
The AP tourism development corporation (APTDC) undertook urgent repairs costing Rs 10 lakh, focusing on jungle clearance, electrical works, and painting, and reopened the island shortly after the floodwaters receded. “The repairs were completed immediately to make the island accessible again,” said APTDC divisional manager Krishna Chaitanya.
However, major attractions like the robotic park, adventure games, maze garden, and indoor games remain non-operational as repair works are yet to begin. The Bhavani Island Tourism Corporation (BITC), responsible for managing these activities, estimates that Rs 50 lakh is required to restore the entertainment zone, including electricity. “Plans are being made, but the timeline for repairs is uncertain,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
Despite these setbacks, the island continues to attract visitors during the auspicious Karthika Masam, especially on weekends and Mondays, as people enjoy its natural beauty and open spaces for garden parties.
“Six months ago, the island was lively with adventure sports and water rides,” said Veera Babu from Kakinada. “Now, it’s just a quiet spot by the river.” First-time visitor Chennakesava from Vijayawada added, “Even without entertainment activities, Bhavani Island is a perfect escape from city life to connect with nature.”
