Andhra Pradesh Braces for Severe Heatwave Till May 27
The SDMA urged people to avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun, stay hydrated and take precautions against both the extreme heat and sudden thunderstorms

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh continues to reel under an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring across several districts and severe weather conditions expected to persist until May 27, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
Tanuku in West Godavari district recorded the highest temperature in the state on Friday at 44.8°C, while Devarapalli in Anakapalli district and Thorragudipadu in NTR district registered 44.7°C each. SDMA managing director Prakhar Jain said 67 mandals across 15 districts recorded temperatures above 42°C.
The SDMA warned that severe heatwave conditions are likely to intensify further on Saturday, with 13 mandals expected to face extreme heat and around 221 mandals likely to be affected overall. Temperatures between 46°C and 48°C are forecast in parts of Polavaram, Kakinada, Konaseema, East and West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Markapuram, Prakasam and Nellore districts.
Districts including Alluri Sitarama Raju and Anakapalli are likely to record temperatures between 43°C and 45°C, while Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Chittoor and Tirupati districts may experience temperatures ranging between 41°C and 43°C.
Meanwhile, a surface trough is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning in Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Kadapa, Annamayya and Chittoor districts. Authorities advised farmers and cattle rearers not to take shelter under trees during thunderstorms and urged them to move to safer buildings immediately during lightning activity.
On Sunday, temperatures between 45°C and 46°C are likely in Polavaram, Kakinada, Konaseema, East and West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Markapuram and Prakasam districts. Alluri Sitarama Raju, Anakapalli and Nellore districts may record 43°C to 45°C, while other districts are expected to witness temperatures between 40°C and 42°C.
