Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu Asks Officials To Plan Schemes Well To Achieve Best Results

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has said schemes alone will not suffice, but better planning is a must to achieve best results.

Addressing officials of the Women and Child Welfare department at a review meeting in the Secretariat on Friday, he asked about the status of schemes such as Balamrutham, Amrita Hastam, Gorumudda, Giri Gorumudda and Bala Sanjeevani that he had introduced in 2014.

The officials said there were a total of 55,607 Anganwadi centres in the state, of which 48,770 were main Anganwadi centres and 6,837 mini anganwadis. Some 8,311 Anganwadi centres functioned in tribal areas. During the 2014 – 2019 period, work was started for constructing 12,496 centres.

“By 2019, some 6,119 centres were completed and another 2,800 are under construction. In the last five years, there was no focus on the construction of Anganwadi centres. The YSRC government sanctioned 2,048 new Anganwadi centres but completed only 18 centres,” they said.

The officials explained to the CM that there was no progress in the upgradation of Anganwadis. “There are no toilets in 14,597 anganwadi centres in the state and 8,455 centres do not have electricity.”

The chief minister advised the officials to focus on creating infrastructure in Anganwadi centres with central and state government funds. “Let us provide as many women hostels as possible. Work according to the plan to achieve results within a year.”

Minister for women, child and tribal welfare, Gummadi Sandhyarani, was present.
