Andhra Pradesh: Contract Bid Period Increased to 10 Years
Vijayawada: Minister for roads, buildings, investments, and infrastructure B.C. Janardhan Reddy announced that the contract bid period for contractors is being increased from five years to 10 years so as to provide a fair opportunity to small and medium-scale contractors.
Janardhan Reddy explained contractors had to face challenging circumstances in the last five years. "Over the past few years, there has been a significant decline in major development works," he said.
The minister attributed the slowdown to the Covid-19 pandemic and the previous YSRC government's lack of initiative in development.
"The majority of contractors in the state, regardless of their capability, are facing the prospect of being disqualified from bidding for upcoming projects because of a five-year blacklisting period," the minister said.
"This move will allow a greater number of contractors to participate in tenders for roads and buildings projects, ensuring that they have a fair opportunity to contribute to the state's development," he said.
