Andhra Pradesh: Direct Rajahmundry-Delhi Flights from October, Terminal Upgrade Begins

Vijayawada: Come October, people from twin Godavari districts can fly directly to Delhi.

At present, the airport handles 10 arrivals and 10 departures for three days in a week and nine arrivals and nine departures for the remaining four days. ATRs with limited seating capacity are being operated from the airport to sectors like Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru.

For the winter schedule of operation beginning from October 28, 2024 to March 28, 2025, the Rajahmundry airport will have a big winged aircraft with a capacity ranging between 180 and 220 seats.

As the airport has 3,165-meter long runway, it can facilitate landing of big aircraft including Boeing 777 and Airbus A321 and others.

The airport authorities say passengers hailing from parts of erstwhile Godavari districts visit either Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and other airports to fly to Delhi as there is no direct flight from Rajahmundry to Delhi.

On the other hand, the Airport Authority of India is taking up terminal expansion works to meet the requirements for next 15 years by developing aero bridge and lounges for passengers of common and business classes and also for VIPs so that 700 to 800 passengers can be accommodated at the airport at a time.

In addition to it, commercial outlets will be accommodated for the benefit of passengers.

Rajahmundry airport director S. Gnaneswara Rao said, “As part of winter schedule, a big winged aircraft will be launched to enable passengers to fly to Delhi directly from the airport in October and we are also taking up terminal expansion works to provide more facilities to the passengers.”
