Andhra Pradesh: Girl Critical After Attack Inside Hostel Compound

Visakhapatnam: A final-year student of Srikakulam Degree College, hailing from Kondagudem village of Santakaviti mandal, was allegedly attacked by an unknown man in the hostel compound on Thursday evening. She was found by other students in an unconscious state and shifted to a government hospital where her condition was stated to be critical. She was later shifted to a corporate hospital in Visakhapatnam.
According to DSP Ch. Vivekanand, the girl left the hostel at 3 pm and visited a beautician at about 5 pm and later returned to the hostel at 8 pm when the attacker pounced on her. The DSP added one of her eyes was swollen and had aberration on her chin. However, any sexual assault or neuro injuries were ruled out. The hostel is located in Srikakulam town along with five other hostels. All the hostels were in a compound wall and there was no lights or CCTV cameras in the hostels, the DSP said.
Home minister Vangalapudi Anitha condemned the attack and asked SP KV Maheswara Reddy to nab the accused immediately. She also ordered the officials to provide better medical facilities for the student. The SP informed the minister that three special teams had already been formed to search for the accused.
