Andhra Pradesh Govt Signs Solar MoU With NVVN

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday signed an MoU for the solarization of government buildings with the support of NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN).

Naidu said the government of Andhra Pradesh is keen to promote solar rooftop systems in the domestic sector and government institutions under the PM Surya Ghar scheme launched by the Centre. He explained that under this scheme it is proposed to solarise government buildings in the state to meet the power requirement through solar energy in an environmentally sustainable manner.

The NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd. has approached the state government for the implementation of solar rooftop systems in government buildings. NVVN signed an MoU with NREDCAP on Wednesday in the presence of the CM and minister of energy Gottipati Ravi Kumar. Gurdeep Singh, chairman & managing director, NTPC, Renu Narang, CEO of NVVN, K Vijayanand, special chief secretary to government, energy department, K.V.N. Chakradhara Babu, vice chairman & managing director, NREDCAP were also present.

The officials stated that it was proposed to implement 300 MW solar roof top systems in government buildings in the first phase. The NVVN will install the solar rooftop systems and deliver power at a levelized tariff that is uniform for a period of 25 years.

It is also the responsibility of the NVVN to operate and maintain the systems for 25 years at free of cost. On installation of solar rooftop systems, government departments will save substantial amounts towards energy bills.

The estimated annual savings on implementation of 300 MW solar rooftop systems in government buildings is Rs 118.27 crore. The savings over a period of 25 years is Rs 2,957 crore. Installation of a 300 MW.
