Andhra Pradesh: Minister Narayana Launches Statewide Drive to Expedite Building Approvals

Tirupati: In a move to streamline urban development processes, minister for municipal administration and urban development Dr Ponguru Narayana has launched a state-wide ‘Town Planning’ special drive to expedite pending building approvals. The campaign kicked off from Nellore on Thursday where the minister personally oversaw a special drive to clear a backlog of construction permits.
During his visit to Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) office, Narayana participated in reviewing pending applications along Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and NMC commissioner Surya Teja. The minister engaged directly with citizens, listening to their concerns and instructing officials to conduct thorough examinations of each case to ensure swift and fair resolutions.
Addressing the media, Narayana said the special drive in Nellore city had already shown promising results with 57 of the 76 pending approvals cleared in a single day. He emphasised that this initiative was born out of the numerous complaints received regarding town planning issues from the previous administration's tenure. The minister assured the public that steps are being taken to simplify the building approval process and reduce inconveniences faced by the citizens.
The focus of this campaign, as outlined by Narayana, is to accelerate projects that have secured all necessary permissions but are facing delays due to administrative bottlenecks. He announced that similar drives would be conducted across various municipalities in Andhra Pradesh, following directive from Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
The minister stated administrative clearance given for 5,00,000 of the 7,00,000 applications between 2014 and 2017. He assured that all applicants for Tidco houses between 2014 and 2019 would receive their allotments. He also announced the upcoming relaunch of the ‘Pura Seva’ programme to improve municipal services and enhance the delivery of civic services across the state.
Narayana also spoke on the controversial issue of irregularities in the Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) system. Narayana assured that he would discuss with the Chief Minister to address these concerns and take appropriate decisions.
The minister warned that legal action would be pursued against those found guilty of wrongdoing, stating that this would be done without political bias.
