Andhra Pradesh: Ministers vow to bring back 16 youth stranded in Saudi

Visakhapatnam: Ministers Kondapalli Srinivas and Kinjarapu Atchannaidu assured that efforts are being made to bring back 16 youth of Srikakulam district sent to Dammam in Saudi Arabia by recruitment agencies promising good jobs. However, after the youngsters reached there, the agencies that had taken money for proving employment in Saudi did not take up follow-up action.

Atchannaidu, who hails from Srikakulam district, said he will discuss the issue with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu to expeditiously bring back the youth, deceived by recruiting agents, to Andhra Pradesh.
The minister announced plans to enhance employment opportunities in north Andhra region, so that the youth need not migrate.
He expressed his commitment to develop local industries and train youth in improving their skills.
The victims stuck in Saudi Arabia have been identified as A. Hemachalam, Maddili Siva, Paila Chandrashekar, Potala Venkateswar Rao, L. Minna Rao, Dunna Vinod, Chitrada Ajay, Kuttam Gunnaiha, Gali Kumar, Pala Mohana Rao, Korikala Lokana, Tenage Devaraju, Kornala Shyam Kumar, Tukuna Behara, Gujja Lakshmana Rao, Kiluga Swararao, Buddepu Giri and Paila Papaiah
In conversation with Deccan Chronicle, Srikakulam SP Maheswar Reddy said the minister is in touch with the external affairs ministry to bring back the youth.
He said once the victims return, they will register a case against the recruiting agencies who have not attended to the victims despite taking money.
Srikakulam circle inspector said the victims had paid between `1 and 1.2 lakh each as part of their agreement with the agencies through a mediator before traveling to Saudi Arabia in August 2024. They joined a company named Komban located in Dammam. But even after two months, they did not receive salaries.
The inspector said on September 27, 2024, instead of reporting for duty, the youth visited a local labour court. It is said certain officials discouraged them from filing complaints against the company management.
Subsequently, company officials told the youth that they are no longer needed and would not receive salaries. Officials threatened them with deportation if they did not leave voluntarily. Victims claimed they could not return due to lack of documentation.
