Andhra Pradesh: NMC to Deploy Large Cranes at Immersion Ghats
TIRUPATI: Preparations are being fast-tracked at key immersion ghats, including those at Irukula Parameswari Temple and Penna Barrage Tikkana Park, and the city was leaving no stone unturned to ensure a hassle-free immersion process during the Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations, said Surya Teja, the commissioner of Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Friday.
Elaborating on the arrangements, the commissioner said the NMC will deploy large cranes at the ghats to facilitate the immersion of idols. Motorboats and lifeguards will be stationed at water bodies to ensure the safety of devotees. They are also setting up barricades, installing adequate lighting for night immersions, deploying CCTV cameras for surveillance and regulating traffic with the help of microphone announcements.
On the sanitation front, he said the sanitation department will assign workers and sanitary inspectors to keep the ghats clean. Garbage will be collected using tractors and waste collection vehicles. Drinking water facilities will also be arranged along the routes leading to the ghats for the convenience of devotees.
The commissioner appealed to devotees to cooperate with the civic authorities by refraining from throwing leaves, flowers or other waste into the immersion ponds. He also urged caution regarding overhead power lines during idol transportation and emphasised the need for safety while handling fireworks to avoid electrical mishaps. Commissioner Teja further advised the devotees entering the ponds to remain vigilant and keep children away from water.
