Andhra Pradesh: Nunna GP a Role Model in State’s SWPC Management

A district-level training programme will be organised for mandal extension officers, panchayat raj & rural development (EOPR&RDs) officers, and gram panchayat secretaries to improve the oversight of SWPCs.

Vijayawada: NTR district panchayat officer (DPO) P. Lavanya Kumari on Saturday declared Nunna gram panchayat as a model for other panchayats in the management of solid waste processing centers (SWPCs) and sanitation practices.

A district-level training programme will be organised for mandal extension officers, panchayat raj & rural development (EOPR&RDs) officers, and gram panchayat secretaries to improve the oversight of SWPCs.

As part of a two-day special drive on sanitation, DPO Lavanya Kumari conducted a surprise visit to Nunna on Saturday. During her visit, she observed the collection of both dry and wet waste and assessed the operations at the solid waste processing center. She also reviewed the garbage segregation process and production of vermicomposting fertiliser.

Lavanya Kumari instructed GP secretary D. Srinivas Rao to ensure that all collected waste is transported to SWPC for processing. She stressed that waste should not be discarded on roadsides or along the Polavaram Right Main Canal bund. Additionally, she directed GP officials to take appropriate steps to dispose of waste properly by sending it to Jindal Urban Waste Management Private Limited in Guntur.

Lavanya Kumari commended the efforts of GP officials and staff in enhancing public awareness regarding waste disposal through a public announcement system. On learning that officials from neighbouring villages in Krishna district dump garbage along the Polavaram Right Main Canal bund, she ordered the installation of warning boards marking the boundaries of the NTR district. Additionally, she instructed the deployment of sanitation workers to prevent illegal garbage dumping.
