Andhra Pradesh: Officials directed to assess crop damages

Vijayawada: Minister for agriculture K. Atchannaidu has directed officials to assess the extent of crop damage caused by incessant rainfall and to take steps to minimise the damage. The minister held a meeting with officials from the agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries departments on Sunday. Speaking at the meeting, he called for the clearing of drains and stagnant water to save the crops.

Based on preliminary reports of animal deaths, officials informed the minister that 14 buffaloes and cows, 5,000 hens, and four sheep and goats had died. In response, the minister asked the officials to be present in the flood-hit areas with medicines to prevent further loss of livestock.

Fisheries officials reported that inland tanks and fishing nets were damaged in Eluru and Palnadu districts, while 29,259 fishing boats remained at the shore without venturing into the sea in the state.

The minister requested that call centres in all three departments continue to provide advice to farmers and fishermen to minimise damage. He also advised officials not to take leave until the situation returns to normalcy, ensuring support for farmers.

Atchannaidu directed officials to take measures to revive the damaged crops and ensure they do not fall prey to diseases and infections, in order to save them.
