Visakhapatnam: The weatherman has forecast heavy rainfall across coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh, including the flood-affected NTR and Krishna districts, from Tuesday to Saturday.
The Indian Meteorological Department issued an orange alert in NTR and Krishan districts, warning of heavy rainfall in isolated places and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in isolated places in the two districts between Tuesday and Wednesday.
IMD Amaravati scientist Dr S Karuna Sagar said a cyclonic circulation lay over coastal AP and Yanam and their neighbourhoods between 3.1km and 5.8km above mean sea level. A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around Sept 5.
Under its influence, isolated parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh would experience heavy rains till Sept 7. Strong surface winds with a speed of 30-40kmph are likely at isolated places over CAP and Rayalaseema region till Sept 7, he said.
Many parts of Vijayawada city were inundated due to the heavy rains on Aug 30 and 31. The possible fresh spell of rains could worsen the situation and trigger fresh floods, officials said.
Notably, nearly 4.5 lakh people were affected by the unprecedented rainfall and floods in this region. The most-affected districts included NTR, Guntur, Krishna, Eluru, Palnadu, Bapatla and Prakasam.
Tirupati and Tada (Tirupati district) recorded the highest rainfall of 5cm during the last 24 hours, followed by 4cm rainfall in Sullurupeta (Tirupati), 3cm in Alur (Kurnool) and 2cm rainfall each in Koilkuntla (Nandyal), Srikalahasti (Tirupati), Allagadda (Nandyal), Thottambedu (Tirupati) and Palakonda (ParvathipuramManyam).
