Vijayawada: Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has said access to clean drinking water is a fundamental right of every individual and Andhra Pradesh would ensure this to all in the near future.
"Andhra Pradesh hopes to be a model for implementation of the central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission. The initiative would eliminate the problem of water contamination as also resultant eruption of epidemics and kidney-related health issues among the population," the Deputy Chief Minister stated in the legislative council on Wednesday.
MLAs Kakarla Suresh, Kondru Murali Mohan, Muthumula Ashok Reddy, Gouthu Sireesha, Putta Sudhakar Yadava and Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy raised questions about the disappearance of revenue osmosis water plants established under NTR Sujala Sravanthi Schemes in villages. They sought measures for preservation of the water plants.
Pawan Kalyan, in his reply, said, “There are kidney victims in every district. The number of people suffering from kidney problems due to use of contaminated drinking water has increased. The people in Uddhanam, Prakasam district and upper NTR areas are suffering from kidney diseases due to this situation.”
He said the state should be at the forefront in utilizing the Jaljeevan Mission scheme. The Centre has extended the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme till 2027 and there is a need to utilize it effectively within the prescribed period.
The Jal Jeevan Mission, he said, should be completed by March 2027. Everyone should get clean water by this time. “The Jaljeevan Mission being implemented by the Centre will be expanded in the state. There should be committed leadership for the Jal Jeevan Mission and their government is taking measures to fulfil the fundamental rights of every individual by supplying them with clean drinking water,” he said.
