ANANTAPUR: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project would significantly advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and transform Puttaparthi into a strategic defence centre of national importance.
Addressing a gathering, Naidu said the project would position Rayalaseema as a key hub for manufacturing fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft, strengthening India’s self-reliance in defence production and modernising the armed forces.
The Chief Minister said the ₹15,000-crore AMCA programme is expected to generate around 7,500 jobs while establishing Puttaparthi as a major centre for fighter jet integration and advanced flight testing.
Praising the Centre’s push for indigenous defence manufacturing, Naidu said Andhra Pradesh is committed to emerging as a leading aerospace and defence destination. He noted that the state government cleared all approvals for the project within 36 days, describing the pace as “jet speed,” and credited the Union defence ministry for its support in fast-tracking the initiative.
Naidu said Puttaparthi, known globally as a spiritual centre, would now also play a vital role in strengthening national security through advanced defence manufacturing. Highlighting future plans, he said the State is developing a drone manufacturing ecosystem at Orvakal, citing the growing importance of drone technology in both military and civilian sectors.
The Chief Minister also outlined broader industrial initiatives, including the expansion of manufacturing capacities, development of new industrial nodes, and completion of key infrastructure projects to boost economic growth in the region.
Union civil aviation minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and Defence Minister for supporting Andhra Pradesh’s emergence as a defence manufacturing hub.
