Andhra Pradesh: Srisailam Reservoir Releases 5.54 Lakh Cusecs, Draws Large Crowds

Kurnool: Huge inflows are continuing from the upper reaches into the Srisailam reservoir. As a result, 5.54 lakh cusecs of water is being released through 10 of the 12 crest gates of the Srisailam Dam.

The reservoir is currently receiving 4.24 lakh cusecs of inflows, with the current water storage being 204.53 TMC feet.

Visitors to the dam have increased with the raising of 10 gates of the dam. They are taking advantage of the weekend to visit the reservoir and witness the massive columns of water gushing out with the unique roar.

The influx of visitors is, however, causing congestion on the roads surrounding the reservoir, leading to significant traffic problems.

Many of the devotees first visit the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Shrine before heading to the reservoir, contributing to the traffic jam on both sides of the dam. The jam is exacerbated by fishermen selling fish in the Lingalagattu area.

There is criticism that despite a ban on fishing in August and September, authorities are not effectively enforcing it in the area.

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's wife Bhuvaneshwari visited the Srisailam Temple on Saturday and offered prayers to the presiding deities. Devasthanam executive officer D. Peddiraju welcomed her at the main entrance of the temple with customary honours.

Bhuvaneshwari performed Rudrabhishekam for Sri Swamy and Kumkumarchana for Ammavaru. Additionally, she visited the Sakshi Ganapati Swamy Temple and performed pooja.
