Andhra Pradesh: Stolen Gold and Silver Ornaments Handed Over to 23 Victims

Kakinada: Eluru superintendent of police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore took an initiative to hand over the recovered gold and silver ornaments to 23 victims under various police station limits.

In this process, the victims need not go to courts. Previously, the victims should be presented before court, and they have to claim the ornaments themselves. Now, under 106, Bharat Nyaya Samhitha, the victim needs to go to the court to take their stolen properties. The police will get the permission from the court for handing over their stolen property and then they will give it to the victims.

Kishore told the media at Eluru on Sunday that on the end of December, a gang of thieves was apprehended. Nearly 55 theft cases were registered in 2020, 2021, and 2022. The police recovered 2,206.6 gram of gold and 9.40 kg of silver ornaments and Rs 1 lakh in cash from the thieves. However, he said that it is often challenging and expensive for victims to approach the courts to reclaim the recovered gold and silver ornaments and cash. Due to lack of proper awareness, in many cases, the recovered property remains stuck in the court proceedings or at police stations.

He said that to address the issue and ensure swift and cost-free justice for the victims by leveraging the amendments in the new laws, a programme was launched in the district by the police department. In the aforementioned cases, the gold and silver ornaments and cash recovered in connection with the 23 cases were handed over to the victims on Sunday without any cost or delay.
