Andhra Pradesh: Students Sensitised on Cybercrime, Drug Abuse

Tirupati: To sensitise youngsters about the menace of cybercrimes and drug abuse in the district, police officials have organised an awareness walkathon with 600 students from various colleges in Chittoor on Wednesday.

Emphasising the rising threat of cybercrimes and the prevalence of drug abuse in Chittoor district, SP V.N. Manikanta Chandolu stated that cybercrimes are increasing by 12 per cent annually, with many cases going unreported. He highlighted various cyber fraud tactics, including investment scams, job fraud, and online betting apps.

Explaining the devastating long-term effects of drug abuse on individuals, families, and society, the SP urged students to avoid drugs and support those struggling with addiction by assisting in rehabilitation efforts. He advised students to be cautious of easy money schemes and to report any suspicious activities to the police via helpline numbers—cybercrime: 1930, drug-related issues: 14500—or the district police WhatsApp number: 9440900005.
