Andhra Pradesh: Suspect in sexual assault of 5-year old held; minister vows severe punishment
Vijayawada: Condemning the heinous assault on a five-year-old girl in Nuzvid, information and public relations minister Kolusu Parthasarathy said the accused would be severely punished and all kinds of assistance would be provided to the victim's family.
Parthasarathy said the issue has been brought to the notice of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, home minister Vangalapudi Anitha and DGP Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao.
The minister said police investigating the case have identified a suspect and arrested him. He has been taken into custody at Rentachintala, he said, adding the accused would be booked under POCSO and would be sternly dealt with.
On Tuesday, Parthasarathy visited the victim who is undergoing treatment at old government general hospital in Vijayawada and enquired about her health.
The minister said the girl’s condition is stable and added that she would be discharged from the hospital in a day or two. The minister mentioned that the district administration had provided immediate assistance to the victim's family.
Underlining the need to bring about a change in the behavior of men to curb crimes against women, Parthasarathy said the state government is determined to completely eradicate ganja and other drugs under whose influence many criminals commit crimes against women
